Frequently Asked Questions
I own an older home and I cannot afford to build a new one or spend a lot of money on a major remodel. Is there anything I can do to make my home more efficient?
Today Homeowners have many options at their disposal that will increase the efficiency of their existing home. Water saving devices like “dual flush” toilets and “low flow” fixtures are just a few of the options available that are affordable and relatively easy to install. Existing HVAC systems and the exterior envelope of your home can also be inspected and often the efficiency of these systems can be improved by simple repairs or adjustments.
I plan on building a new home, but I cannot afford the additional costs associated with “Building Green”. What are my options?
There is a misconception that building a new home or remodel using “Green” techniques and products is expensive. Many of the products and techniques used in “Green Building” generate savings in lower operation costs (utility bills) and lower maintenance costs. Using products that are less toxic and produce a healthier interior environment can save on medical costs. A project can include many sustainable products and systems or just one or two, it is still a home that is measurably more comfortable, safer, and healthier then a “standard” home.
I would like to build my own home, but I don’t have any construction experience. Can I do this?
At Green Spirit Construction we encourage homeowners to participate in their building process at the level of involvement that they are comfortable with...we gladly provide Construction Management services to those homeowners that desire to be in charge of their project. If you are interested in this opportunity, please talk to us about your requirements and we can custom tailor a relationship that meets your expectations.
My plans for a renovation to my existing home don’t include provisions for “Building Green”. Will Green Spirit Construction still construct my project?
While we encourage the use of sustainable building products and techniques everyone’s project has a set of unique requirements and “Green Building” is not a “one size fits all” approach. We always will offer suggestions and options to our homeowners that will improve the livability of their homes, but this is not a requirement. You decide what level of sustainability is right for your project.
I have been told that it would be better to have a large builder construct my home. Is this true?
There is a common misconception that bigger is better when it comes to homebuilders. This is not the case; the recent increase in the financial failings and woes of national builders indicate that the cash required to fund large operations and the associated large overhead can overwhelm even the industry leaders. Often individual homeowners find themselves frustrated when dealing with builders whose “main office” is located in another state and hides behind a faceless corporate logo.
Green Spirit Construction is locally owned and operated by Kelly Moore. “I live in Northeast Florida and it is my name and my personal reputation at stake every time I interact with a homeowner; past, current, or future.”
